Full fat workstation with a very proven and battle-tested feature set. The MPC Key 61 feature two (2) USB ports for connecting thumb drives and other USB storage devices, as well as a port for adding an additional 2. Also, one thing that I've noticed about a lot of MPC folks, they're not always horribly opposed to new/more units either. Yes, you could get the same effect by pairing your favourite controller with your MPC of choice, but this is a very neat solution. A lot of brands wouldn't do this, as it helped them enforce segmentation of expensive models for marketing, so it was a shockingly pro-consumer move. 2 main outputs, 2 sub outputs and an additional headphone output further allow for expansive connections. Individual gain knobs control the input of the combo XLR/TRS ' inputs with phantom power for driving condenser microphones. Having a full-on MPC in there is pretty great though, as you know it's not half-arsed or missing random features.Ĭonnectivity is a surprisingly movable feast in terms of audio in and out on modern MPCs too, with the ability to talk to USB class audio and the like - I really think that was one of the best decisions that Akai have made in years. The MPC Key 61 has an onboard 24-bit Audio Interface with high-end preamps and AD/DA converters. Yeah, the whole "sampling workstation keyboard" thing is quite attractive. If the MPC’s could use higher sample rates like 96kHz, then maybe. The RAM upgrade is cool, but honestly I can’t ever see myself using 2gb never mind 4gb. This would make a really nice centerpiece for a studio. I’ve got a soft spot for sampling keyboards.
